How can I become a member?

Baptism in the Name of the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Spirit is the requisite for becoming a Christian. The Episcopal Church recognizes any Christian baptism and thus does not require (or allow) a second baptism. Once a person's baptism is recorded in the congregational records, that person is recognized as a member. In order to take part in the administration and governance of the Church one must make an adult profession of faith, called Confirmation. Confirmed members have voice and vote at congregational meetings and are eligible to serve in elected capacities in the Church.

At St. James we expect that all new members will also accomplish the following:

  • Complete a data base form for our records.
  • Attend an orientation class.
  • Return a pledge card.
  • If already an Episcopalian, request a Letter of Transfer from one's former congregation.

Of course, it makes little sense to be a part of the Body of Christ at St. James or anywhere else unless one participates. Therefore, we would expect regular attendance at worship and participation in the life and ministry of the congregation as God places His calling on each member's heart.
