Lay Eucharistic Visitors

WHO WE ARE:

Lay Eucharistic Visitors (LEVs)

WHAT WE DO:

When the earliest disciples gathered to break bread together,   as instructed by our Lord, they took a portion home so sickly or elderly family members could share in the Feast.

Today, Lay Eucharistic Visitors share the Body of Christ with parish members who are unable to attend Sunday worship. We are sent out as an extension of the altar rail, administering the elements and emphasizing the reality that St. James is a body of believers united by their faith in Jesus Christ.

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME:

You will be scheduled to serve every four to six weeks. You will receive LEV training before your first assignment. We invite you to join this essential St. James ministry.

The celebration of the Holy Eucharist cannot be limited to just the congregation present each Sunday. It must be available to all who seek a closer connection with the Lord, including those unable to join us on Sunday.

Trained and subsequently licensed by the Diocese, Lay Eucharistic Visitors (also known as our LEV Ministry) are commissioned by the clergy to perform this service. The Visitors bring the word of God, news of Parish activities, a discussion of the sermon and the opportunity to celebrate the Holy Eucharist to those who are home bound and those temporarily unable attend services, such as families with a newborn. Fellow parishioners and family members may also participate in these visits.
