· Bishop Stanton to teach at St. James! – We are indeed fortunate to be able to host our bishop, James M. Stanton, as he kicks off a teaching mission in the Diocese of Dallas right here at St. James. His topic will be “Back to the Sources: The Roots of Our Spiritual Tradition”. He will concentrate on the Gospel according to Matthew, The Rule of St. Benedict, Martin Luther, and Thomas Cranmer. The classes will take place on successive Wednesdays, September 1, 8, and 15 at 7pm. Make plans now to come and hear this gifted teacher who just happens to be our beloved bishop.
· Cocktail Party before Bishop’s teaching in Parish Hall beginning at 6 p.m.
· September 22: In conjunction with Bishop Stanton's lecture series on the Roots of our Spiritual Tradition, Terry Cagley will give a talk and PowerPoint presentation on the Counter-Reformation in Art, specifically as expressed in Spanish art. The early modern period of European culture faced an enormous shift with the rupture of the Protestant Reformation of the Catholic Church. To the dismay of Rome, Protestantism took hold and flourished. Reaction to this Reformation was swift and sweeping, and is now known as the Counter-Reformation. The efforts to answer these challenges were nowhere more pronounced than in Spain, in which religious art served to give form and shape to the Catholic faith. As Episcopalians, we are recipients of many of these legacies. Come and see and draw your own conclusions.
· Golf – Bishop’s Camp Golf Classic –Anyone interested in playing for St. James on Monday, Sept. 20 at Thorntree CC please contact Russ Pate at 214-341-8673 or email rrprsp@airmail.net
