JAMES’ JOURNAL

This Coming Week
· School Parents Bible Study (8:30 Monday Morning) – This week we will talk about St. Patrick. Come and join us!
"Healing the Spirit by Walking with Jesus" - A Lenten Journey -Wednesday Evenings, 7:15 p.m., through March 31 - If giving up chocolate is your idea of repentance, make this a Lent that matters! Join Mother Marci during six Wednesday evenings in Lent for a weekly walk with Jesus. This Lenten series will explore Jesus' healing miracles in the Gospels and what these stories mean for us during this time of repentance and reflection. Each class with feature a different Scripture story (or stories), with discussion and an exercise in a specific spiritual discipline to engage the Word in your life.
We'll begin with our hunger and thirst for God. How do we recognize the signs of spiritual hunger? Where do we find nourishment? What is a miracle, anyway? Does God's idea of a miracle always look like ours? How do we develop a faith that amazes? How do we continue to keep the faith when all hope seems gone?
Bring your Bible and a desire to reflect on your relationship with Christ. Refresh and restore your understanding of how Jesus works among us! You won't miss the chocolate - I promise!

Our Burmese parishioners are a growing and vital part of our church family. Unfortunately, there is a language barrier that has prevented us from getting better acquainted with them. They have been receiving English language instruction for the past few months which has focused on basic vocabulary and communication skills. They are wonderful and enthusiastic students, and they are making great progress. In addition, several of them are being trained as acolytes by Joe French, and recently, little David Moo was baptized. We want to help them adjust to life in the U.S., and as we get to know them better, we will be better able to serve their needs. This month, we are organizing a clothing drive for them. We will be taking donations of gently worn, clean clothing for any season from March 14 - 20. We will distribute the clothing on March 21.They tend to be rather petite, so if you wear small or medium sized clothes, or you know someone who does, please drop them by the parish hall. We also need clothing for babies, children, and teens. When the weather got cold, we worried that some of them may not have coats, so donations of coats would be most welcome. We will also welcome donations of gift cards. I would recommend Target, Wal-Mart or Kohl's. You can give those to me at church, or give them to Carol Hernandez. They will be divided equally among the families. I will have racks and tables set up by age and gender. If you have any questions, please e-mail me at ginnykthomas@gmail.com. Thank you for your support of this. I would also like to ask you to do something else - please talk to them. Introduce yourself. Ask them their names, and ask them how they are. They need to practice their English, but most of all they need to get to know you, and to feel a part of our wonderful St. James family.
