Putting the interests and needs of others before ourselves is central to the gospel message. St. James is active in the following neighborhood ministries:
White Rock Center of Hope (WRCH)
Serving a five zip-code area of Lake Highlands and East Dallas, the White Rock Center of Hope provides food, clothing, rent and utility assistance, school supplies, gas and bus vouchers and referrals to needy individuals and families struggling to make ends meet. White Rock volunteers warehouse and distribute food and clothing but also take in donations of gently used household items which they inventory and price in their Thrift Shop. Proceeds of the shops go to purchase food and clothing and other forms of assistance.
WRCH needs volunteers and needs food donations. In particular, the shelter has a critical need right now for canned soup and jelly. Please remember those in need when you grocery shop.
Austin Street Centre
Currently, St. James has four teams which prepare food to serve once a month at the Austin Street Centre. As a big city, Dallas is increasingly confronted with the challenges of homelessness. Austin Street helps meet that need by offering emergency shelter and related services to homeless people in a compassionate Christian community, so that the person in need might be better able to make responsible choices and changes in their lives. The Centre has a particular ministry of caring for those who suffer from various physical and mental disabilities, unable to care for themselves, with few or no available alternatives.
Do you want to help feed the homeless? Come join us! Visit our calendar to see when the next team is meeting to prepare and serve a meal.
Dallas Police Department
We support the nearby Northeast Division of the Dallas Police Department. We pray for the police men and women and partner with them by raising funds for equipment and facility upgrades at the subdivision station that are not funded by the city budget.
St. James strives to reach out with the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ to our neighbors in the Lake Highlands/White Rock Lake area. We accomplish this through direct contact efforts like our Holy Week and Christmas Outreach campaigns and our Crawfish Boil in the spring, as well as our July 4th Parade participation and our fall Pumpkin Patch.
