Altar Guild

“The Levites were in an office of trust, and were over the storerooms and treasuries of the house of God. And they lodged round about the house of God, because the charge was upon them, and the opening thereof every morning pertained to them. And certain of them had charge of the ministering vessels, that they should bring in and out. Some of them also were appointed to oversee the vessels, and all the instruments of the sanctuary.” 1 Chronicles 9:26-29 “O God, you accepted the services of Levites in your temple, and your Son was pleased to accept the loving service of his friends: Bless the ministry of these persons and give them grace, that they, caring for the vessels and vestments of your worship and the adornment of your sanctuary, may make the place of your presence glorious; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen” The Book of Occasional Services

WHO WE ARE:

Members of the Altar Guild of St. James are required to possess only two things: a desire to serve God in His holy place and a dedication to the preservation of the appointments and adornments used in His worship.

WHAT WE DO:

Through the handling of His holy things, we are brought closer to our Lord. We are responsible for the care and upkeep of all the materials used during our worship services. These include vestments, paraments, vessels and linens.

WHEN & WHERE WE MEET:

Our four teams alternate duty on a rotating basis. We work from 9:00 a.m. until approximately 10:30 a.m. on Saturdays and then we are responsible for cleaning and setting up after services on Sunday. During Holy Days and special occasions, our presence and services are required.

WHAT WILL BE EXPECTED OF ME:

All new members will undergo training of the specific duties and responsibilities of the Altar Guild. The new member would be assigned to a team for training and will become a part of that team.
