Educational & Fellowship Offerings in Lent

Throughout Lent there will be new Christian Education offerings to deepen your Lenten discipline.  Please find one that’s right for you.

Seven Last Words – An Invitation to a Deeper Friendship with Jesus
Father Michael Hurst will be leading this study in the Parish Hall based on the book by Rev. James Martin, SJ. Using Jesus’s last words on the cross, as recorded in the Gospels, this work reveals how deeply Jesus understood our predicaments, what it means to be fully human, and why we can turn to Christ completely, in mind, heart, and soul. Each meditation is dedicated to one of the seven sayings.

Bread and Wine – Readings for Lent and Easter – Begins March 17th
Father Oliver Butler will be leading a study of writings from the book Bread and Wine, Readings for Lent and Easter featuring some of the world’s best-loved spiritual writers, an unparalleled gathering of reflections for Lent. A time of self-denial, soul searching, and spiritual preparation, Lent is a fitting season for daily reading and reflection. Grouped around such themes as temptation, crucifixion, resurrection, and new life, Bread and Wine can be dipped into especially at this time of spiritual revitalization. Class will meet in the Chapel.

The Parable of the Prodigal Son
Deacon Phil will be leading this study of one of the most profound stories found in the Gospel of Luke in the Bride’s Room. It is a moving story that teaches us about God’s love for us and his willingness to forgive us nomatter what we have done. Come to learn how much more there is to the story.

The Gospel of Mark
Toni Luc-Tayengo will be leading the Young Families group in an exegetical study of the Gospel of Mark that focuses on Jesus’ approachability and the practical application of his teachings in the world today. All are welcome to join the class in the Library.

Youth/Confirmation Class
Students will begin the preparation for confirmation with classes on Sunday mornings. These classes will have us consider the words and affirmations made in the baptismal covenant in order to help potential confirmands discern whether it is time for them to make that decision. All students are invited to come and share whether they have already been confirmed or not.

First Communion/First Informed Communion Class
Starting March 24th and running for three weeks, we will be offering a First Communion/First Informed Communion Class for children in Kindergarten through 6th grade. This is a family-based program which will begin with a small snack at 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel and will last one hour. The class will involve both parents and children and home-based activities for your child’s informed First Communion on Palm Sunday at the 10:00 a.m. service. If you and your child would like to attend this program and make their First Informed Communion, please email Toni at ToniLuc@stjamesdallas.org.
